Elementary School in Šančiai (now Motiejus Valančius Elementary School) represents the work of on the most professional Lithuanian interwar school designers Stasys Kudokas. The building, just like other educational objects designed by the architect in the temporary capital (elementary schools in Aleksotas and Jonava Streets, Higher Technical School), are characterised by monumentality and unique combination of historicist and modernist principles. In a certain way such style represents the architectural concept of that time when modernisation intertwined with local traditional symbols and functionality – with monumental historicism, in which an ornament “can be used in various parts of the building from the plinth to the cornice”.
